1. OVERALL LOOK OF THE ROOM
Picture what you want the room to look like, the vibes that the room should bring because believe you, me Curtains vary according to rooms whether it's for the Living Room, Bedroom or Kitchen. Bedroom Curtains should bring a soothing, relaxing feel so earthy neutral tones would be your best bet. Don't You Think? Living Room Curtains should be cheerful, inviting and welcoming while homely. With Kitchens I would advise Blinds alternatively but that's a story for another day.
2. COLOUR AND PATTERN
It's Important to choose a curtain that compliments the overall style of the room - particularly the colour of the walls, carpet or floors and other soft furnishings. A general rule of thumb when blending curtains into the room is if there is already another focal point in the room, such as strongly coloured walls, carpets of furniture with a busy pattern, then its best to choose curtains with a neutral tone. However, if the room is painted white or cream wiith neutral furnishings, them statement curtains can bring personality to the room.
3. DENSITY OF THE CURTAIN
This refers to the thickness of the texture of the fabric which often comes into play with how much sunlight one allows into the room, The heavier the density the less the sunlight passing through, the lightier the fabric the transparent it becomes while some are moderately dense thus partially blocking light or rather having enough light go through. So basically it depends on whether you prefer too much sunlight or darker tones.
4. PURPOSE OF THE CURTAIN
People who want to have some privacy and block out light should buy a heavier curtain. Velvet curtains or curtains that have a blackout lining are perfect for this. While a sheer curtain can create a nice style statement in a room if blocking out sunlight is not a big neccesity.
5. Lining or NO Lining
Many a time we recommend addin a lining to your curtains. This is Because they have a number of benefits, such as protecting the curtain fabric along with furnishings and wood floors in the room. They also add volume and weight to the window treatment, making the curtain fuller and richer. The main benefit however, is that it makes curtains more energy efficient, keeping the room cool during the summer and chasing the cold away during the winter.
